1. MU ALPHA THETA
Mu Alpha Theta is a highly selective national mathematics honorary society based upon superior student performance in mathematics. The National Mathematics Honor Society chapter of Lithia Springs High School is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization. Mu Alpha Theta was formed in 1957 to engender keener interest in mathematics, to develop sound scholarship in the subject and promote enjoyment of mathematics among high school students. As a newly functioning chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, we will operate under the establish chapter constitution, elect officers, and participate in activities that foster mathematical abilities and interest.
The requirements for admission into this elite organization includes current enrollment in an advance mathematics course such as Algebra II or Accelerated Precalculus for juniors, and Precalculus, AP Statistics aor AP Calculus AB/BC for seniors, with no grade less than a B for any high school mathematical course. In addition, students must also have a satisfactory disciplinary record and be confirmed by select members of the mathematics department.
Following the invitiation into Mu Alpha Theta, all members are required to maintain at least the same level of performance in all criteria that led to their selection. This obligation includes rising juniors enrolling and completing a high level mathematical course such as Precalculus, AP Statistics, or AP Calculus AB/BC.

2. LSHS MATHEMATICS TEAM
The mathematics department at LSHS provides an opportunity for students to participate on a mathematics competition team. Selection for participation on this competition team will be those highly academically ranked members of Mu Alpha Theta. Those on this team participant in math enrichment activities, and prepares for local, state, and national competitions.
3. ADVANCED MATHEMATICAL TOPICS COURSE
Advanced Mathematical Topics is designed for students who have completed at least three years of high school mathematics, or its equivalent in curriculum and coursework. Students taking this exclusive course must have completed coursework in Algebra I (or Coordinate Algebra), Geometry (or Analytic Geometry) and Algebra II (or Advanced Algebra). The fundamental purpose of this course is to provide an educational forum for students who are interested in STEM careers. Students will delve deeper into mathematical concepts, and design a program of study that meets their future academic needs. Moreover, students will select an academic area of interest related to mathematical fields such as physics, chemistry, engineering, bio-medics, etc. and complete a research project on a particular problem defined in that certain field.
This is an independent study elective course meant for students who are self-motivated, proactive and has achieved high success in mathematics.
